Hamzic was the first Miner swimmer to win an individual national championship, capturing the 200-yard breaststroke at the  NCAA Division II Championships in 2009.  In his four-year career as a Miner, Hamzic earned 21 All-America awards, including a second place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as a freshman in 2008 and had six finishes among the top five in events at national meets throughout his career.  He finished third nationally in the 100-breaststroke in 2008 and fourth in that event a year later, while also adding another third place showing in the 200-breaststroke in 2011.  Hamzic also captured four conference championships in the breaststroke events during his time as a Miner, winning back-to-back titles in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke in 2009 and 2010.
