Costello (2009-12) was a four-year standout for the Missouri S&T women's volleyball team, where she set numerous program records as a setter and earned national recognition for both her athletic and academic excellence. Her remarkable career was capped by being named the Captial One Academic All-America of the Year for volleyball in 2012 and receiving the prestigious Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Paragon Award in 2013. She was a two-time first-team All-GLVC selection and earned All-Midwest Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in her senior season.

Costello led the conference and set a school record with 1,436 assists during the 2011 campaign, leading the Miners to a GLVC West Division championship and the program's first-ever NCAA Division II Midwest Regional appearance. She followed with 1,359 assists in 2012—the second-highest single-season total in program history—as S&T repeated as division champions. Over her career, she amassed a school-record 4,361 assists and ranks among the program's career leaders in assisted blocks (175) and digs (923).

Costello's excellence extended into the classroom. She was a two-time Academic All-America selection, a three-time GLVC All-Academic team honoree and was named the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's volleyball in 2011.

Costello's performance across all areas of competition and academics makes her one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history.
