The Miners' 1998 soccer team, under the direction of Dawson Driscoll, recorded one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program by going 13-4 and winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title with an undefeated record. The Miners also set a school record during that season by winning nine consecutive games, which included wins over traditional powers SIU Edwardsville and Truman State, while allowing only 14 goals in 17 games and posting six shutouts behind the play of goalkeepers Todd Wilfling and Jeff Hougland. Nathan Wojtiekwicz led a balanced scoring attack – 10 different players scored goals during the season – with seven goals and four assists with 18 points. Nine members of the team earned All-MIAA honors following the season, with five being selected to the first team.
