Pennuto completed his career with the Miner swimming team as the recipient of 23 All-America awards, which included eight top-eight finishes at the NCAA Division II Championships.  Three of those top-eight showings came at the 2004 national meet, when he tied for fourth in the 200-yard butterfly and also finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley and seventh in the 200-IM.  Over his four seasons, Pennuto earned All-America honors in both individual medley events, the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard medley relay in all four national meets he competed in.  In addition to his performances at the national level, Pennuto recorded four top-two finishes at conference meets, including the championship in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2001 Central States Championships.  Pennuto's success extended past the swimming pool, as he was the first Miner student-athlete to be selected as the Academic All-America of the Year in his sport, doing so following the 2003-04 season after earning his second Academic All-America award.
