Colter was a four-year letterman in football, finishing his career with nine pass interceptions.  In 1972, a season in which he was a team captain and honorable mention All-MIAA, he intercepted two passes among the team’s record seven picks in a win over Northeast Missouri State.  He won many academic honors in his career as well, including becoming the school’s first Academic All-America selection; he was also the recipient of an NCAA post-graduate scholarship and the Robert Nicodemus scholar-athlete award.
