The Miners’ 1972 baseball squad recorded a record of 20-12 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA, good enough to earn it the conference championship and the opportunity to host an NCAA regional tournament in Rolla. The Miners’ pitching staff, led by six-game winner Bob Pledge, held its opponents to a .238 batting average and only 4.2 runs per game, while the offense tallied more than five runs per contest in support. The team had six regulars who batted better than .300 during the season.
