Hall of Fame
An outstanding two-sport student-athlete at UMR who played on the football and baseball teams. In football, he played defensive back and served as UMR’s placekicker; in his four seasons, he connected on 77-of-89 extra point attempts and 17-of-29 field goals. A member of the Miners’ undefeated football team in 1980, Thomas also intercepted 11 passes during his career as a two-year starter at free safety and earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors following the 1982 season. In baseball, Thomas was a three-time selection to the All-MIAA team, earning first-team laurels in 1983 and also being named as the team’s most valuable player in 1982. Thomas finished his baseball career as a .308 hitter and in the top 10 all-time for doubles, home runs and runs batted in.
