Thorn was one of the top performers in the early years of the Lady Miner basketball program, averaging 20.5 points and 14.8 rebounds per game during her two-year career. She set many of the school’s rebounding records, including a single-game mark of 27 against Missouri Southern during the 1978-79 season and 309 during that campaign. During her two years in a UMR uniform, the Lady Miners posted a record of 29-13. Her 778 points were the most scored by any Miner player at that time and she was later named as the school’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1979. Thorn would get selected by the Milwaukee Does of the Women’s Professional Basketball League following her UMR career.
