Tappmeyer established the Miner women's basketball program into one of the top teams in the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association during a seven-year tenure when he guided teams to a record of 95-85. Taking over a program that had won a combined 20 games over the three seasons prior to her arrival, Tappmeyer led the Miners to their largest win total in school history when they posted a 19-8 record during the 1986-87 campaign and reached the MIAA Tournament that season, earning MIAA Coach of the Year honors along the way. She would lead the team to three more seasons with at least 16 wins and to tournament berths in all three of those years, including the 1990-91 season when the Miners won their first-ever MIAA Tournament game and finished her tenure with the most wins of any coach in program history. During her tenure, Miner players earned 19 All-MIAA awards.
