McGrath had his athletic career interrupted by World War II, but it didn’t keep him from becoming a standout upon his return.  He won a letter in 1942, then three more from 1946-48.  He won All-MIAA honors in each of his last two years and was voted as the team’s most valuable player as a senior.  McGrath stood out on the Miners’ MIAA championship team in 1947.
