Haug was one of the top quarterbacks of his era in the MIAA, finishing his playing career as the holder of a number of the school’s passing records. He established career marks for passes attempted (640), completed (327), yards (4,284) and touchdowns (28). He also became the first Miner quarterback in history to throw for 300 yards in a game, racking up 302 in a 1974 game against Central Missouri during a year in which he earned first-team All-MIAA honors. Haug was named as the quarterback of the MSM/UMR Centennial Football team in 1993 and was the recipient of the Gale Bullman Award for the 1975-76 academic year.
