The 1995-96 season was one of many firsts for the Lady Miner basketball program, as it won its first Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title, earned the program's first berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament and became the first to win at least 20 games in a season. The Lady Miners opened the season with nine consecutive wins and never lost back-to-back games through the first 26 games of the year as they spent three weeks ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation. Four players averaged in double figures for the Lady Miners, led by All-MIAA second team selection Becky Reichard with her average of 16.5 points per game. Christie Williams and Heather Hartman were honorable mention All-MIAA choices for the 21-7 Lady Miners.
