ROLLA, Mo. – Thanks to eight event wins that included a school record performance by freshman Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), Missouri S&T's swimming team downed top-ranked Drury in a dual meet Friday afternoon by a score of 134-71 at the S&T Pool.

The Miners, ranked 11th in the latest CollegeSwimming.com rankings, took control of the meet before the first intermission by winning four of the first five events and going one-two in three of them.  Clancy broke the school and facility records in the 100-yard backstroke during the second segment of the meet when he recorded a time of 48.73 seconds, which also surpassed the NCAA Division II B-cut standard in the event.

S&T opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:29.75 – also a pool record – behind the team of Clancy, Marco Flores (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/SERAN Private Bilingual School), Nolan Fergus (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) and Gabriel Asevedo (Singapore/Canadian International School), then got wins from four other individuals besides Clancy to help the Miners complete a sweep of their four dual meets this season.

Two event victories came courtesy of Alec Davis (Joplin, MO/Joplin), who won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.08 and followed that up by winning the 100-freestyle in 45.73 seconds, while two more came from Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) as he took firsts in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:29.98 – which also made an NCAA Division II B-cut -- and 500-freestyle in 4:39.07.

S&T's other first place finishes were posted by Chris Sprenger (Shawnee, KS/Mill Valley) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.43 and Marco Flores (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/SERAN Private Bilingual School) in the 100-yard breaststroke as he recorded a time of 55.67 seconds.

Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden/) finished second in the 1,000 in 9:37.67 and 500-free in 4:39.60, as did Connor Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) in the 200-freestyle in 1:42.58, Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the 200-IM in 1:53.64 and Fergus in the 100-butterfly in 50.02 seconds.

The Miners also had a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Davis, Wiedemeier, Asevedo and Clancy finished with a time of 1:23.88, just 0.15 in back of Drury's winning mark.

Third place finishes came from Cole Akal (Alton, IL/Alton) in the 200-freestyle in 1:42.82 and 100-freestyle in 47.05 seconds, Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) in the 100-butterfly in 50.36 seconds, Mark Cavanaugh (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista) in the 100-backstroke in 50.90 seconds, Marcelo Busch (Sao Centrano Do Sui-Sp, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) in the 500-freestyle in 4:39.65 and Sprenger in the 100-breaststroke in 56.45 seconds.

Karol Ostrowski captured both of Drury's individual event wins – the Panthers also won the 200-yard freestyle relay to close the meet – and set the S&T Pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 20.54 seconds that broke the longest standing facility record.

Missouri S&T's next competition will be at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which begins Feb. 10 in Elkhart, Ind.
