Nationals Recap Days 1 & 2: Bichsel and Wiedemeier Advance to Finals in Early Swims

EVANSVILLE, IN  --  Two days are down for Missouri S&T at the NCAA Division II Swimming National Championships, with two more days to go. The Miners have participated in five events so far, with Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) advancing to the finals of both of his events.

Bichsel started the championships off on Wednesday, racing in the 200 individual medley. He finished 15th in the prelims, advancing to the consolation final where he finished 8th. He followed that up with a 6th place finish in the 400 individual medley prelims on Thursday, taking 5th overall in the finals with a new school record time of 3:47.25.

Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) and Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West) both had solid prelims in their first events, with Wiedemeier going 20.23 in the 50 free and Christensen finishing less than half a second off the S&T record in the 100 fly with a time of 47.96.

Wiedemeier rounded out Thursday's events with a 5th place finish in the 200 free consolation final after finishing 16th in the prelims. He set a new personal-best in his finals swim, touching the wall at 1:36.05.

More action from nationals tomorrow morning, starting with Christensen in the 100 breast at 10am.
