WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Returning to meet action for the first time in more than a month, Missouri S&T's track & field teams recorded six top-three finishes that included one winning effort and an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying performance from freshman
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) at the Central Missouri Invitational.
Swadley earned his provisional mark as he placed third in the shot put with a mark of 52-10¼. That mark – the third-best in the event this season in the Great Lakes Valley Conference – was one of a quartet of top-three efforts by the men's team at the meet as the men's team finished fourth in the team standings and the women's squad placed fifth.
The Miners' win Friday came from
Aaron Jones (Kansas City, MO/Ruskin) in the high jump as he cleared 6-7; he later added a second place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 45-9 1/4. Meanwhile,
Ezekiel Buck (Elburn, IL/Geneva) finished second in the pole vault – one of three top-eight efforts he was involved in on Friday – with a clearance of 15-5¾ and
Alex Staples (River Forest, IL/Oak Park River Forest) placed third in the 800-meters as he recorded a time of 1:57.18.
Jimmie Washington (Missouri City, TX/Dulles) had a fourth place showing in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.76 seconds along with
Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) had a fourth place showing in the weight throw as he recorded a mark of 52-4, immediately ahead of Swadley's fifth place mark of 50-8¼.
Justin Murdock (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) – who took sixth in the weight throw behind his two teammates at 48-6 -- was fifth in the shot put at 46-2 as was
Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) and
Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the high jump as each of them cleared 5-11¼, while
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) placed sixth in the triple jump at 43-0¼ as did
Josh Hallum (Burnsville, MN/St. Thomas Academy) in the 200-meters in 23.52 seconds and
Duncan Clark (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) in the mile where he posted a time of 4:35.28.
S&T also had a sixth place showing from its 4x400-meter relay team of Buck,
Justin Hawkins (O'Fallon, IL/Montrose),
Seth McKinney (Harwood, MO/El Dorado Christian) and Staples as that group finished in 3:34.87.
Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) had a seventh place showing in the long jump with a leap of 21-11¾, one spot ahead of
Dane Rodriguez's (Barnhart, MO/Windsor) mark of 21-11. The duo also finished in the same order in the triple jump, with Crone posting a leap of 42-11½ and Rodriguez's best mark being 42-5¼.
Buck took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds and Hallum was eighth in the 100-meter dash in 7.27 seconds, as was
Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-0¼.
On the women's side of the meet, S&T had three of the top eight finishers in the shot put as
Skyler Ruszkowski (League City, TX/Clear Falls) finished third with a mark of 38-5,
Jessica Rhoads (Holts Summit, MO/Jefferson City) took fifth at 37-2½ and
Anne Simpson (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) placed eighth at 33-5¾.
Camille Baker (Knoxville, TN/Knoxville Catholic HS) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.09 seconds, while Ruszkowski took sixth in 9.79 seconds.
Aly VanCardo (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) recorded a fifth place effort in the 800-meters with a time of 2:28.29 as did
Kennedy Duffy (Rochester, IL/Rochester) in the 3,000-meters with her time of 11:07.76. S&T had two others finish immediately behind Duffy in that event, as Emily Greisenauer was sixth in 11:10.17 and
Krista Hilmas (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was seventh in 11:10.80.
Baker also placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 16-3¾, while
Delaney Guy (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard North) took eighth at 15-9½ in that event. Guy had a sixth place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 32-11, while
Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) also had a sixth place showing in the high jump with a clearance of 5-0¼ and an seventh in the triple jump at 32-7.
The Miners' next competition will take place in two weeks (Feb. 1 and 2) at the Lion Open at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo.
