ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T swimmers posted the best time in every event Friday night to complete its regular season schedule on a winning note, claiming a
117-82 decision over Truman State at the S&T Pool.
The Miners had the best time in all nine individual events and won both relays, taking first place officially in nine of the 11 overall events.
Andrew Trowbridge (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) and
David Sanchez-Turner (Madrid, Spain/Academic Torvell), two of the three Miner seniors competing at home for the last time, were among the winning performers for S&T Friday. Trowbridge won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:33.26, just four seconds off the pool record, while Sanchez-Turner took first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.94 seconds.
The other firsts came from Agi Van Wetering in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.39,
Zlatan Hamzic (Panceva, Serbia/Uros Predic) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.38,
Zach Lemons (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.66,
Hamilton Vernon (Omaha, Neb./Burke) in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.89 seconds,
Aaron Schmidt (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.58 and
Andrew Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:44.58.
Lemons also had the best time in the 200-yard breaststroke in an exhibition performance with a mark of 2:09.19.
The Miners' 400-yard medley relay team of
Jeff Enge (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial), Lemons,
Andrew Simek (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) and Sanchez-Turner won that event to open the night in 3:32.21, while the 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Vernon,
Sean Deegan (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill),
James Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) and Van Wetering had the best time in that event of 3:11.58.
Second place finishes came from
Matt Welsh (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the 200-freestyle in 1:47.77,
Danny Murphy (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) in the 200-butterfly in 1:59.83, Deegan in the 100-freestyle in 48.20 seconds, Trowbridge in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.67, Enge in the 500-freestyle in 4:45.96.
Paul Reinisch (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) took third in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.63 seconds, as did Van Wetering in the 100-freestyle in 48.70 seconds.
The Miners' next competition will take place at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships, a four-day meet which begins Feb. 10 in Cleveland, Miss.
