Biography
2009-10: Competed at the NCAA Division II Championships in the distance freestyle events and 400-yard individual medley...was the NSISC runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a team- and season-best time of 4:33.51...was a member of the Miners' runner-up finisher in the 800-freestyle relay...also finished third in the 400-yard indivdual medley at the NSISC meet and posted a top time of 4:01.19 during the season...was sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:03.10, his best mark in that event during the year.
2008-09: Landed honorable mention All-America honors in the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best and school record time of 3:56.98, as well as the 500-yard freestyle, where he placed 11th in 4:30.16 and 1,650-freestyle as he took 16th place in 15;49.90...competed in the 1,000-yard freestyle event at the NCAA meet in March…led off the Miners’ winning team at the NSISC meet in the 800-yard freestyle relay…also placed second in the 1,000-freestyle at the NSISC meet with a seasonal-best time of 9:25.43 and in the 500-freestyle in 4;33.18…also took fourth in the 400-IM.
2007-08: Earned All-America honors in his freshman season with a seventh place finish in the 400-yard individual medley…posted a time of 4:00.68 in the event at the meet, setting a new school record in the process…also competed in the three distance freestyle events (500, 1,000 and 1,650) at the NCAA Division II Championships…came in fifth place in the 1,000-freestyle and in eighth in the 400-IM at the NSISC Championships.
PERSONAL: Son of James and Jane Murphy… qualified for the Texas 5A state meet in the 500-yard freestyle last spring and ended up ninth in the event with a time of 4:39.23…also competed in the state meet as a junior in the 500-yard freestyle and placed 13th in that event…majoring in mechanical engineering.
