Miners perform well at Bobby Lane Invite in Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas – Competing against a number of NCAA Division II and top NCAA Division II programs, the Missouri S&T men's track and field team had several finishes among the top 10 in various events Saturday at the Bobby Lane Invitational at the University of Texas-Arlington.
 
Allen Ernst (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) had the highest individual finish among the Miners by taking sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:52.67. S&T also had a sixth place showing from its 4x100-meter relay team of Charles Melton (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central), Mike Wilson (Valrico, Fla./King), Jared Anders (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) and Brett Vessell (San Antonio, Texas/Central Catholic) as it recorded a time of 43.96 seconds.
 
The Miners got a seventh place finish from Wilson in the 100-meters with a time of 10.94 seconds and eighth place showings from Joe Skelton (Potosi, Mo./Potosi) in the 800-meters with a time of 2:00.19, Eric Fairbairn (Edmond, Okla./Deer Creek) in the 1,500-meters in 4:07.98 and Jarryd Dean (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) in the high jump at 6-2 ¾.
 
Wilson later ran a 22.44 in the 200-meters and Dean had marks of 21-5 ½ in the long jump
 
Elijah Thomas (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) had the Miners' top mark in the long jump at 22-0 1/4 and also posted a mark of 41-10 ½ in the triple jump, right behind the mark of 43-5 ¾ by Kyle Williams (Salem, Mo./Salem) that was good for ninth.
 
Heath Groom (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission West) ended up ninth as well in the javelin with a throw of 168-6, while Lucas Jaster (Concordia, Mo./St. Paul Lutheran) took 10th in the shot put at 44-8 ¼ and Matt Morrow (Lawson, Mo./Lawson) finished 11th in the discus with a throw of 124-2.
 
Derick Winkle (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and Williams both finished among the top 13 in the 110-meter hurdles, with Winkle coming in 12th in 15.70 seconds and Williams right behind him in 15.71.
 
Vessell had a time of 11.10 in the 100-meters while Melton finished in 11.16. The Miners also got times of 51.92 seconds from Bryan Kluge (Wright City, Mo./St. Dominic) in the 400-meters and 52.13 in that event from Ian Packard (Rolla, Mo./Rolla), while Brandon Etzold (Jackson, Mo./Saxony Lutheran) recorded a mark of 2:02.43 in the 800-meters and Brendan Smith (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) had a 4:12.23 in the 1,500.
 
Grant Brown (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lone Jack) posted a mark of 15:37.45 and Jason Barry (Eldon, Mo./School of the Osage) a 15:42.31 in the 5,000-meters.
 
The Miners will be idle next weekend before taking part in the Pittsburg State Invitational on April 11. S&T will then host the Dewey Allgood Invitational a week later at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
