2/14/2009 11:41:52 PM

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Missouri S&T used a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday afternoon to take a 5-4 decision and complete a sweep of a doubleheader over Truman State.

The Miners won the first game by a count of 9-1.

S&T fell behind 4-3 in the top of the seventh in the second game on Matt Herrick's two-out RBI double, but took advantage of an error to start the bottom of the seventh and scored two unearned runs to win the game.

Kyle Giovannini (Bradford, Ark./Midland) reached on the error by Bulldog pitcher Kyle Veazey, then moved up on a hit by Tim Kerovac.  Cody Bass (Chattanooga, Okla./Chattanooga) followed with a run-scoring single to tie the game and send Kerovac to third, then moments later, Kerovac scored the winning run on a passed ball.

After spotting Truman two runs in the first, the Miners tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Thomas McCormick (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) delivered an RBI single and Will Morrison (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) drove in the other with a one-out double.

The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead in the fifth, but the Miners got that run back in the bottom half of the frame when Eaf Redden (Gunter, Texas/Gunter) singled home Kerovac with two outs.

Zach Gronek, who got the win in relief in S&T's victory over Henderson State on Friday, got the win in relief of starter Andrew Page (Stoney Creek, Ont./Cardinal Newman) in the nightcap Saturday. He fanned four in 2 2/3 innings.

Kerovac had three of the Miners' 10 hits in game two, while Redden delivered a pair of hits for S&T.

In game one, the Miners scored in five of the seven innings to back the solid pitching of Jordan Buck (Pacific, Mo./Pacific) and Zac Helton (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette), who allowed just five hits and struck out six in the seven-inning contest.

The Miners got on the board in the second on Grant Johnson (LaSalle, Ill./St. Bede Academy)'s two-run double, then got another RBI double from Redden in the third to go up 3-0.

S&T busted the game open with a four-run fifth, as Morrison drove in two runs with a hit, then Hunter Scheib (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) added a run-scoring double and Johnson had another RBI hit. The Miners added single runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Redden and in the seventh on Andrew Vance (Stilwell, Kan./Blue Valley )'s sacrifice fly.

Redden and Scheib had three hits apiece for S&T in the opener, as the Miners racked up 13 hits. McCormick and Johnson also had two hits in the contest.

S&T (3-1) will open its home schedule Friday when it hosts Henderson State in a noon doubleheader at the Miner Baseball Field, then hosts Augustana Feb. 22 in another twinbill that will get underway at noon.
