GLVC Championships – Day 1 Results
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T got a championship performance from
Lucas Rosenbaum (Sidney, NE/Sidney HS) in the pole vault and holds the lead in the men's standings after the first day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Rosenbaum, who cleared 15-9¼ to win his second GLVC pole vault title, was one of four Miners to finish among the top eight in the pole vault.
Ezekiel Buck (Elburn, IL/Geneva) placed third in the event at 15-9¼ as well – finishing third based on misses in the competition – while
Andrew Scherff (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell North HS) was fifth at 14-9½ and
Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) finished eighth as he cleared 14-3½.
The Miners also got a second place finish from
John Karsten (Jefferson City, MO/Blair Oaks HS) in the weight throw as he posted a school record mark of 63-8¾, finishing less than a foot behind Indianapolis' Austin Hogan.
S&T had four additional scoring marks on the first day, with
Dane Rodriguez (Barnhart, MO/Windsor) finishing fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22-9 and
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) landing right behind him at 22-5,
Garrett Friday (New Market, MD/Oakdale HS) taking sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 54-5¼ and
Garrett Blanchard (Centralia, IL/Centralia) scoring for the Miners in the 5,000-meters with his eighth place finish in 15:41.27.
Those performances have the Miners in first place by six points over Lewis after the first day of competition.
Buck currently sits in second place as well in the heptathlon after the first four events, where he is 108 points in back of Lewis' Bryce Holesinger. Buck had the fastest time in the 60-meters in the multi-event competition of 7.17 seconds and had 2,613 points on the day. Meanwhile, teammate
Sheaffer Smith (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) is in fifth place after day one with 2,413 points.
In addition,
Jimmie Washington (Missouri City, TX/Dulles) made the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with his time of 8.60 seconds in the preliminaries and will compete in the finals on Sunday.
The Lady Miners' lone scoring performance Saturday came from its distance medley relay team of Hannah Shearer, Kim Huskey, Aly VanCardo and Megan Schulte, as that quartet finished fifth in a time of 12:39.83.
Anne Massey ran a time of 9.14 seconds Saturday in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for Sunday's finals, while Anne Simpson placed 10
th in the heptathlon with a total of 2,300 points.
The meet continues Sunday evening.
