PEORIA, Ill. – Missouri S&T got winning performances from
Duncan Clark (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) and a team title by the women's team Friday afternoon at the Bradley Pink Classic, while the S&T men's team posted a strong second place finish.
The women's squad ended up tying Nebraska-Omaha in points with 36 apiece in the White Race, with both squads finishing 70 points in front of third place finisher Monmouth. However, among the team's top five finishers, S&T had better finishes in three of the five head-to-head spots to take the higher spot in the team standings.
UNO had the overall winner in the six-kilometer race in Emily Johnson with a time of 22 minutes flat, but the Miners had the next three across the finish line beginning with
Hannah Shearer (Conroe, TX/The Woodlands Christian Academy), who took second in 22:58.
Kennedy Duffy (Rochester, IL/Rochester) finished third overall in 22:59 and
Emily Griesenauer (Wentzville, MO/Holt) was fourth in 23:05, while
Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City, MO/Jefferson City) also placed among the top 10 as well by coming in seventh place in 23:17. The Miners' fifth finisher was
Krista Hilmas (Rolla, MO/Rolla), who ended up in 25
th overall in 24:14.
S&T's next two finishers were
Hope Strausbaugh (Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville) in 24:49 and
Kristin Goerger (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) in 25:44 in the race of 101 runners.
Friday's win marks the third consecutive year that the S&T women's team has taken first in a meet, as it won the Forest Park Invitational in 2016 and the Gary Stoner Invitational at Central Methodist a year ago.
Clark covered the men's eight-kilometer course in 25:35 to win by 11 seconds over Fort Wayne's Logan Kitchen, as he was one of three Miners to finish among the top 10 overall.
Wil Crutcher (Rolla, MO/Rolla) finished in eighth place for the Miners in 26:28, while
Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) was right behind him in ninth in 26:29.
S&T's top five was rounded out by
Adam Kraus (Tulsa, OK/Thomas Edison Preparatory) in 13
th place with a time of 26:45 and
Garrett Blanchard (Centralia, IL/Centralia) in 15
th in 26:50.
Morgan Cauveren (Lee's Summit, MO/Blue Springs), who posted a time of 26:55 and
AJ Knowles (Papillion, NE/Papillion South), who finished in 26:56, were the next two Miners across the finish line in the race with 109 finishers.
The Miners finished second to Fort Wayne in the men's White Race competition with 42 points to the Mastodons' 30; S&T was well ahead of third place finisher Millikin.
Missouri S&T is scheduled to compete next Saturday at the Central Missouri Mule Run in the final tune-up prior to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
