Riley Named GLVC Freshman of the Year as Miner Men Tie Program-Best Third at Championships; Women Place 10th

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Missouri S&T men's and women's cross country turned in standout performances at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships on Saturday, highlighted by the Miner men matching their best team finish in program history and freshman Maddox Riley (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) earning GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

The Miner men placed third out of 12 teams, tying their highest finish ever at the GLVC Championships, a feat previously accomplished in 2008 and 2022. The team also made history by placing two runners in the top six overall and four runners in the top 20 for the first time in program history.

Leading the Miners was Henry Born (Lake Quivira, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest), who finished fourth overall with a time of 23:54.29, matching his result from last season, the best individual finish by an S&T runner in the GLVC era. Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) followed close behind in sixth with a time of 24:20.04, marking the first time in school history that S&T placed two runners among the top six overall.

Freshman Maddox Riley (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) finished 18th in 25:03.45, earning GLVC Freshman of the Year as the top first-year finisher in the conference. Shaun Wolfe (Fulton, MO/Fulton) followed in 20th at 25:05.85, and Spencer Pye (Merriam, KS/Shawnee Mission North) rounded out the top five in 35th with a time of 25:36.16.

With their top-20 finishes, Born, Bacon, Riley, and Wolfe all earned All-GLVC honors, capping one of the most successful conference meets in program history.

On the women's side, Missouri S&T finished 10th out of 14 teams, led by a cohesive performance and strong pack running through the 6,000-meter course.

Kristen Ely (Houston, MO/Houston) led the Miners with a 72nd-place finish in 24:44.79, followed by Grace Echevarria (Bayamon, PR/Papa Juan XXIII) in 73rd at 24:49.87. Mizelle Groenewald (Wildwood,MO/Lafayette) took 80th in 25:04.89, Genevieve Wacker (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) was 90th in 25:47.28, and Isabella Hacker (Breese, IL/Mater Dei) completed the scoring in 93rd with a time of 25:54.96.

The women's top-five average time was 25:16.36, with a tight spread of 1:10.17, reflecting a balanced team effort across the lineup.

What's Next
Missouri S&T will turn its attention to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
