Miner swimmers to host Truman State Friday in final home meet

1/15/2014 5:10:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team will hold its final home meet of the 2013-14 season Friday evening when its hosts Truman State in a dual meet at the S&T Pool in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. The meet will get underway at 5 p.m. and the Miners' four seniors will be honored prior to the competition.

The Miners won their only previous home meet of the season when they beat Delta State on Nov. 8. Missouri S&T, who was 13th in the last CSCAA national rankings released in late December, comes into Friday's matchup having eight of its individuals already reach an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and are coming off a weekend in which it finished third at the Washington University Invitational.

In last weekend's meet, Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) won three events for the Miners as he took firsts in the 200-yard breaststroke and both individual medley events. He has made a provisional qualifying mark in the 200-breaststroke and 400-IM, as well as the distance freestyle events.

S&T also had a winning performance last weekend from its 200-yard individual medley relay team of Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East), Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad) and Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette); all four of them have also reached provisional marks this season along with Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek), Colton Krause (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville) and Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador), either on an individual basis or as part of a relay team.

Truman State will be in competition for the first time since early December, when lost to Lewis in a dual meet. The Bulldogs are facing their third GLVC school in a dual meet this season as they also own a victory over William Jewell.

The Miners will have one more competition – a double dual meet with Missouri State and Lindenwood next weekend in Springfield, Mo. – prior to the inaugural Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships that begin Feb. 12 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
