Eight firsts highlight day for track teams at Dewey Allgood Invitational

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's track & field teams combined for eight event wins Saturday in its final major tuneup for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships as they competed in the Dewey Allgood Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium, with each team winning four events during the afternoon.

The Miners got winning performances Saturday on the men's side from Robert Falkner (Gardner, KS/Gardner-Edgerton) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:42.54, Kaiden Snyder (St. James, MO/St. James) in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.58 seconds, Justin Chadwell (Norwood, MO/Norwood) in the triple jump with a leap of 48-7¼, hitting the provisional qualifying mark and Jonathan Nitsch (Winfield, IL/Saint Charles East) in the pole vault as he cleared 14-5¼.

The winners among the women's team were Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) in the shot put with her mark of 43-3, Madelaine Fischer (Anamosa, IA/Anamosa) with a winning mark of 152-6 in the discus setting a new school record for a second time this season and also hitting the provisional qualifying mark. Jenna Mueller (St. Louis, MO/Oakville), who won the pole vault by clearing 11-5¾ and the 4x400-meter relay team of Olivia Miles (Tulsa, OK/Bishop Kelley), Mary Kimmerle (Lathrop, MO/Liberty North), Maddie Falls and Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) that recorded a time of 4:05.74.

Second place finishes on the men's side came from Louis Yohannes (Troy, IL/Triad) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68 seconds, Danny Karnatz in the 400-meters in 49.71 seconds, Vince Scott (Gilberts, IL/Hampshire) in the triple jump with a mark of 48-0½ and Luke Bass (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) in the high jump as he cleared 6-0¾.

S&T had five of the top nine finishers in the 1,500-meters, led by Tate Uding's (Festus, MO/Festus) third place finish in 4:02.43.  Evan Mitchell (Shawnee, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest) was fourth in 4:03.27, Will Mourning fifth in a personal-best 4:03.65, Jimmy Wacker (Festus, MO/Festus) sixth in 4:06.12 and Kaden Deain (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) took ninth in 4:10.05.  The Miners also placed fourth of the top nine in the 5,000-meters, paced by George Ivanov's (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Pius X) third place time of 15:39.30.

The Miners' 4x400-meter relay team of Aidan Cole (Festus, MO/Festus), Sean Keys (Columbia, MO/Hickman). Mitchell and Landon Barnes (Germantown, TN/Houston) finished third as they combined for a time of 3:35.71.  Other third place showings came from Jack Preckel (Wildwood,MO/Lafayette) in the javelin throw with a toss of 182-5 and Xander Hall (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the pole vault at 14-5¼.

S&T got a fourth place performance from Nolan Sebourn (Eureka, MO/Eureka) in the javelin at 178-feet and Chadwell in the long jump with a leap of 22-5¾, with Ayden Jones (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) finishing immediately behind Chadwell with a mark of 22-5¾; Chadwell got the higher position in the standings based on the second-best marks by the two competitors.  Noah Misukonis (Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) finished fourth in the pole vault at 14-5¼ and Wilson Klein (Houston, TX/Lutheran South Academy) was fifth at 13-11¼.

The Miners also had the next three finishers behind Klein in the pole vault in Zakaraia Rice in sixth at 12-11½, Caleb Graham (Carl Junction, MO/Carl Junction) in seventh at 12-5½ and Kael Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) in eighth at 11-11¾.

David Masaitis finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.85 seconds, as did Wyatt Caldwell (Troy, MO/Troy Buchanan) in the hammer throw with a mark of 173-8.  Meanwhile, S&T was also fourth in the 4x100-meter relay in 42.90 seconds behind the quartet of Jabbar Tanner (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs South), Karnatz, Reece Johnson (Festus, MO/Festus) and Yohannes.

Luke Myszka (Downs, IL/Tri-Valley) recorded a fifth place showing in the 110-hurdles in 15.71 seconds as did Keys in the 800-meters in 1:56.52, Eli Graham in the discus with a personal best mark of 157-feet and Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) in the hammer throw at 172-4 and shot put at 50-6¾.

Justin Grellner (Cedar Hill, MO/Northwest) placed sixth in the 400-meters in 50.52 seconds as did Landon Oelschaeger finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 168-6. Braden Stillmaker (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) had a sixth place showing in the 5,000-meters 15:50.78, followed by Jacob Meyers (Lake St. Louis, MO/Homeschooled) in seventh in 16:03.64 and Noah Case (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles) in ninth in 16:43.49.

Parker Nowland (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) was sixth in the steeplechase in 10:34.33, just ahead of teammate Nathan Krisby (St. Peters, MO/Francis Howell) who finished in a time of 10:38.82.  Masaitis was also seventh in the 110-hurdles in 16.07, while Myszka was seventh in the 400-hurdles in 1:01.38 and DJ Carter (Trussville, AL/Hewitt Trussville) finished in that position in the shot put with his mark of 48-5½.  Barnes was eighth in the 800-meters with his time of 1:59.37.

Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville), who was competing unattached in the meet, won both the discus with a throw of 186-1 and shot put with a mark of 57-1½ and former Miner All-America performer Jacob Luebbert captured first in the hammer throw with a mark of 214-11.

For the women, Morris led a sweep of the top three spots in the shot put, as Falls finished second at 41-7¾ and Fischer claimed third with her throw of 37-7¾.

The Miners finished second in the 4x100-meter relay as the team of Miles, Kimmerle, Evangeline Rhama and Mueller recorded a time of 48.97 seconds; its second 4x400-meter relay team of Isabelle Hacker, Grace Echeviarra, Myra Roth (Jackson, MO/Saxony Lutheran) and Meadow Lepert (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) also placed second in that event in 4:24.82.

On an individual basis, Echeviarra finished second in the 800-meters as she posted her top career time of 2:21.24 and Fischer did likewise with a mark of 154-5 in the hammer throw, while Hailey Smith (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) had a second place showing in the high jump by clearing 5-1 and Morris had a throw of 137-8 to finish second in the discus.

Wright finished third in the high jump at 4-11 and in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.20, immediately ahead of Kimmerle who finished in 1:05.96.  Falls was third in the long jump at 18-0¼ and fourth in the 100-meters in 12.28 seconds as was Alexis Lay (Pacific, MO/Pacific) in the javelin as she had a throw of 115-9.

Kimmerle was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 14.62 seconds, Claire Huhmann (Gonzaga Preparatory School/Spokane, WA) was fifth in the hammer with her mark of 127-4 and Smith took fifth in the triple jump with her mark of 36-5¾.  Lauren Fenoglio took sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 4-11

Wright was seventh in the 100-hurdles in 14.91 seconds, while Kristen Ely (Houston, MO/Houston) was seventh in the 1,500-meters in 5:12.16 and eighth in the 800-meters in 2:30.52.  Lay took eighth in the 100-hurdles in 15.34 seconds.

What's Next:

Missouri S&T will compete at the Drake Relays during the second half of next week in Des Moines, Iowa, which will be followed by the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships that will begin April 30 at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
