Miners Shatter Four School Records at Bearcat Invitational

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Missouri S&T track and field sent a group of 18 athletes to Maryville, Missouri, over the weekend to compete at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University, and the Miners delivered a standout performance highlighted by four school records, multiple NCAA Division II provisional marks, and strong finishes across the board.

The weekend was headlined by a historic performance in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay, as the quartet of Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves), Henry Born (Lake Quivira, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest), Jack Janovick (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill), and Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) shattered the Missouri S&T school record by 18 seconds with a time of 9:45.12, eclipsing the previous mark of 10:03.73. The Miners finished third overall in the event, and the time also qualified as a Division II provisional mark. Janovick added another record-breaking effort in the 800 meters, placing second with a time of 1:51.48, while Henry Born (Lake Quivira, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest) continued his strong indoor season by winning the 3,000 meters in 7:57.39, earning a DII provisional and moving to No. 7 nationally. In the throws, Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) capped a big weekend by recording a 19.37-meter throw in the shot put to set another school record.

Beyond the record-setting performances, the Miners turned in several notable finishes throughout the meet. Louis Yohannes (Troy, IL/Triad) placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43, while Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) finished sixth in the mile at 4:11.37. Fraser also added a DII provisional mark in the weight throw at 19.65 meters. On the women's side, Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) posted a DII provisional in the shot put with a mark of 14.13 meters, while Luke Bass (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) cleared 1.93 meters (6-4) to finish sixth in the high jump.

Missouri S&T's multi-event athletes also had a strong showing in the pentathlon. Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.17) and third in the high jump (1.55m / 5-1), while Maddie Falls recorded a mark of 11.67 meters in the shot put. Wright finished fourth in the 800 meters (2:30.22), with Lauryn Fenoglio (Granite City, IL/Granite City) close behind in fifth at 2:32.23.

Missouri S&T continues the indoor season next weekend as the Miners travel to compete at the Pittsburg State Invitational on Feb. 13–14.
