Men’s Track & Field Earns No. 19 National Ranking After Record-Setting Weekend

2/6/2026 11:51:00 AM

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Missouri S&T men's indoor track and field team checked in at No. 19 in the latest national rankings released Feb. 3 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as the Miners continue to make noise early in the indoor season.

Missouri S&T remains one of just three Great Lakes Valley Conference programs ranked nationally, with the latest recognition reflecting another strong week of performances across multiple event groups. The Miners have consistently stacked quality marks as the indoor campaign moves deeper into February.

Last weekend's competition was highlighted by record-breaking performances at the Pittsburg State Invitational, where Henry Born (Lake Quivira, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest) shattered the Missouri S&T school record in the mile, finishing in 4:02.17. Born broke the previous record of 4:13.23 set by Lucas Rackers two seasons ago, also at Pittsburg State. Jack Janovick (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) added to the historic day by tying the school record in the 800-meter run, clocking a season-best 1:52.34 to the tenth of a second.

At the Principia Relays, Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) continued his dominant indoor season, recording the first of nine Miner event wins by claiming the weight throw title with a mark of 19.30 meters. Fraser followed with a second victory on day two, throwing 18.38 meters in the shot put for another top-five mark in school history as he continues to rewrite the record book. Luke Bass (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) also delivered a winning performance for the Miners, capturing first place in the men's high jump.

The Miners' rise in the national rankings underscores the program's depth and momentum as Missouri S&T continues to post elite performances across distance, throws, jumps, and middle-distance events.
