Day One Recap: Knittel 7th in Decathlon after 5 Events, Fraser Earns 12th in Hammer

PUEBLO, CO  --  Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) and Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) competed in the first of three days at nationals today. Knittel took part in the first five events of the decathlon, while Fraser threw in the hammer throw.

Knittel had a strong day in the decathlon, recording two personal records (PR) and two season bests (SB). He began his day with an SB in the 100m, finishing 8th with a time of 11.06 seconds. He would follow that up with another SB, this time in the long jump with a 6.60m mark.

Knittel continued with a PR in the shot put (12.95m) to take 5th and a 1.84m leap in the high jump to take 13th. He would conclude his day with a PR in the 400m, taking 2nd place with a time of 48.52s. He is in 7th at the halfway point in the decathlon.

Fraser initially threw 51.96m in the hammer throw, before recording a mark of 57.74m that was good enough to earn him 12th out of 22 competitors.

What's Next

Knittel continues the decathlon tomorrow morning at 10:30am, while Fraser is set to compete in the discus at 5pm.
