Miners capture eight events to finish second at Truman Invitational

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Sydney Stephens (Plattsburg, MO/Plattsburg) captured three events and Missouri S&T's women's track & field team won eight events overall as it placed second on Friday at the Truman State Invitational.

The Miners had a one-two finish in the both the discus throw and shot put as Stephens won both events, posting marks of 130-11 in the discus and 41-1 in the shot, while Paige Lambright (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) was second at 125-feet in the discus and 38-7 in the shot put.  Stephens' third win of the day came in the javelin, where she had a mark of 122-4.

Other wins on Friday came from Elizabeth Rothweiler (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) in the pole vault as she cleared 10-6, Olivia Henkel (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) in the high jump with a clearance of 5-3, Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.14 seconds, Grace Giesler (Owasso, OK/Owasso) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:42.23 and Hailey Smith (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:08.21

Lambright also recorded a second place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 137-2, while Lauren Fenoglio took second in the long jump with a leap of 16-10¾ as did Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the 1,500-meters in 4:45.08 and Grace Johnson (Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville) in the 400-meters in 1:06.70.

S&T got a second place finish from its 4x100-meter relay team of Smith, Wright, Fenoglio and Elizabeth Saitz (Affton, MO/Lutheran South) as they captured that race in 49.86 seconds, as well as from its 4x400-meter quartet of Smith, Wright, Johnson and Saitz that finished in 4:09.79.

Saitz was third in the 100-meters in 13.12 seconds as was Victoria Regitz (Rockville, MD/Rockville) in the steeplechase with a time of 12:26.51  S&T also got a fourth place finishes from Haylee Woodall (Steelville, MO/Steelville) in the hammer throw at 132-7, just head of Stephens' mark of 126-5, from Clare Holmes (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) in the 1,500-meters in 4:59.75, Puetz in the 800-meters in 2:23.19 and Fenoglio in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.49.

Holmes later had a seventh place showing in the 800-meters in 2:28.46 and Kelly Zipfel (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) placed 10th in that event in 2:36.05.

The Miners, who will compete next weekend at the Mule Relays at the University of Central Missouri, finished with 169 points in the meet to place second to Truman State's 212.
