DES MOINES, Iowa -- Missouri S&T track and field competed on one of the sport's biggest stages this weekend, as throwers Madelaine Fischer (Anamosa, IA/Anamosa) and Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) represented the Miners at the Drake Relays, while Otto Knittel turned in a strong performance in the decathlon competing unattached.
Knittel highlighted the weekend with a fourth-place overall finish in the decathlon, totaling 6,938 points across the 10 events. He delivered consistent performances throughout, including a fourth-place finish in the long jump (6.80m), fifth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.01) and 110-meter hurdles (15.16), and a fifth-place clearance in the high jump (1.92m). He also added a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (49.94) and pole vault (4.20m), while contributing marks in the shot put (12.09m), discus (37.00m), javelin (43.34m), and 1500 meters (5:00.75).
In the field events, Fischer competed in the women's discus, placing 20th with a throw of 33.56 meters. She entered the meet following a strong outdoor season in which she has already broken the Missouri S&T program record twice, including a top mark of 46.49 meters.
Morris added an 11th-place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.60 meters. Earlier this season, Morris set the program's outdoor shot put record with a mark of 14.76 meters and continues to be a consistent presence for the Miners in the throws.
Competing against elite competition at the Drake Relays, the Miners gained valuable experience as they continue through the outdoor season.

Missouri S&T returns to action April 30 – May 2 as they compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Bolivar, Mo.
