KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Missouri S&T got two event wins from
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) and a strong three-event performance from
Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) to lead its efforts Friday as the Miners captured the team championship at the Truman State Invitational.
Fraser, competing in his hometown, had a mark of 53-4½ to edge teammate
Tyler Marchert's (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) throw of 53-2¾ to win the event. He had two additional top-five finishes on Friday with a second showing in the discus throw with a mark of 163-10 and a fourth place performance in the hammer throw at 174-11.
S&T also got wins from
Xander Hall (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the pole vault as he cleared 14-7¼,
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) in the hammer throw with his top mark of 204-8,
Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.36 seconds and
Daniel Garrison (Liberty, MO/Liberty) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:43.67.
Meanwhile, Samuel Schmidt had the fastest preliminary time in the 100-meters of 11.09 seconds but did not run in the finals. Schmidt did finish second later in the meet in the 200-meters in 21.96 seconds.
In addition, the Miners' 4x100-meter relay team of
Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield), Wright,
Reece Johnson (Festus, MO/Festus) and Schmidt won that event in 41.81 seconds as did the 4x400-meter relay squad of
Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette),
Nathan Apple (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg), Ethan Ptacel and Wright that won in 3:26.51.
S&T also had the top four finishers in the 1,500-meters that was won by
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) in a season-best 3:54.85. Rackers was followed by
Henry Born (Lake Quivira, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest) who finished in 3:56.27,
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) in 3:59.76 and
Evan Mitchell (Shawnee, KS/Shawnee Mission Northwest) in 4:07.26. Rackers also headed a run of four Miners atop the standings in the 5,000-meters with his winning time of 14:55.20, where he was followed by
Joshua Nunn (Independence, MO/Truman) in 15:22.14,
Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in third in 15:34.66 and
Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in 15:35.58.
The Miners also landed the top two spots in the 110-meter hurdles, led by Burke's time of 15.05 seconds and Apple's mark of 15.15 seconds.
Justin Chadwell (Norwood, MO/Norwood) had a second place showing in the long jump with a leap of 21-7¼, Johnson in the 100-meters in 11.34 seconds, Pate in the 400-meters in 50.26 seconds, Apple in the 400-hurdles in 56.98 seconds and Bacon in the 800-meters in 1:58.12.
Third place finishes came from
Isaac Pollard (Lindale, TX/Lindale) in the pole vault as he cleared 13-3½, Sherer in the long jump at 20-10½, Knittel in the high jump as he cleared 6-0¾, Ptacek in the 400-meters in 51.30 seconds, Burke in the 200-meters in 22.29 seconds,
Aaron Geissinger (Abilene, KS/Abilene) in the steeplechase at 10:25.87 and Johnson in the 200-meters in 22.59 seconds.
Marchert took fourth in the discus with his throw of 145-feet as did
Aiden Kearns (St. Charles, MO/Luthern-St. Charles) in the 800-meters in 1:59.83 and
Caleb Schoenberg (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) in the steeplechase in 10:35.71, while fifth place finishes were recorded by
Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) in the hammer throw with a mark of 168-11 and
Jorge Cantu (Cypress, TX/Bridgeland) in the 800-meters in 2:00.31.
Ethan Crouch (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was fifth in the shot put at 49-1, just ahead of Luebbert's top mark of 48-10¾. Craft also finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 20-5 as did
Justin Grellner (Cedar Hill, MO/Northwest) in the 400-meters in 52.36 seconds.
The Miners got seventh place finishes from DJ Carter in the discus throw with his mark of 138-10 and
Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) in the high jump at 5-8¾.
Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was eighth in the long jump with his top mark of 19-10¼ and Marchert was ninth in the hammer at 152-10, while
Mason Ivy (Centerton, AR/Bentonville West) had a ninth place finish in the 800-meters in 2:03.28.
Crouch finished 10
th in the discus throw at 130-5 as was Carter in the shot with a mark of 42-8, Lockwood in the 400-meters in 54.31 seconds and
Logan Binger (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) in the 800-meters in 2:04.83.
S&T finished the meet with 335 points to easily outdistance host Truman State and will now head to the Mule Relays next weekend in Warrensburg, Mo., for its next competition.
