Miners Record Multiple Career Bests at House of Champions Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T Swimming finished in ninth out of 11 total teams at the House of Champions Invitational.

To start off the invite, Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) swam a season-best 1:47.21 in the 200-yard IM to finish in second place on Friday. He was close to his career-best of 1:45.80 in the GLVC Championship last season.

In the 50-yard free, Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) set a new career-high of 20.33 to finish first on the C side of the event. That time is 0.32 seconds better than his old personal-best set at the GLVC Championship in February.

The Miners finished in fourth in the 400-yard medley and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay.

Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) set a new personal record in the 100-yard butterfly with a final time of 48.12. His old personal record was also in the GLVC Championship last season.

At the 400-yard IM event, Bichsel recorded a first-place finish for the Miners, clocking in at 3:50.40. That marked a new season-best for Bichsel.

Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) set a new season-high 1:38.64 in the 200-yard freestyle. Later, Walters picked up another new career-best in the 100-yard backstroke. His 47.82 was good enough for second place in the event. Walters also recorded third place in the 200-yard back event with a time of 1:47.46.

Wiedemeier set another season-best in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.65. He finished in first place on the B side of the event.

Bichsel recorded a first-place finish and new season-high in the 200-yard breaststroke event with a final time of 1:57.95. 

The 400-yard freestyle of Walters, Williams, Iden and Wiedemeier collected fourth place, clocking in at 2:59.20.

Through every event, the Miners finished in ninth place out of 11 total teams. The host, IU Indianapolis, recorded first with 1,341.5 points followed by Missouri State in second and Lewis in third. The two other GLVC teams included Missouri-St. Louis (8th place) and Quincy (10th place).

What's Next

Missouri S&T will get a few weeks off until they start up GLVC play again at Missouri-St. Louis on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. That will be their last meet until the calendar flips where they will travel to Quincy on Jan. 11.
