WARRENSBURG, Mo. – A pair of first place finishes were recorded by Missouri S&T competitors Friday night as the Miners finished third as a team at the Mule Relays at the University of Central Missouri.
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) claimed the title in the mile with a time of 4:19.78 to edge Emporia State's Tyler Swift by 0.02 seconds and teammate
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) by one-half of a second in 4:20.28. The other S&T victory on Friday came from
Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner) in the triple jump as he recorded a mark of 44-7 to win by more than a foot over Emporia State's Miles Lockridge. Horton would later add a third place finish in the high jump by clearing 6-4.
The Miners had second place finishes from two of their throwers Friday, as
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) finished there in the weight throw with a mark of 65-11½ and
Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) did likewise in the shot put as he posted a throw of 52-2¾.
Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) also recorded a second place showing in the 400-meters with a time of 51.55 seconds as did
Reece Johnson (Festus, MO/Festus) in the 200-meters with his mark of 23.42 seconds.
S&T had the fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers in the 60-meter hurdles, led by
Luke Myszka's (Downs, IL/Tri-Valley) fourth place time of 8.53 seconds.
Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) finished right behind him in 8.60 and
Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) was sixth in 8.61. Fraser finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 54-6¾ as did Samuel Schmidt in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01 seconds.
S&T got a fifth place finish from
Joshua Nunn (Independence, MO/Truman) in the mile in 4:30 flat and
Aidan Byrne (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University High) in the 200-meters in 24.11 seconds, with
Jake Lansdowne (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) taking sixth in 24.18. Nunn later finished seventh in the 3,000-meters in 9:11.42.
Luebbert was fifth in the shot with a mark of 48-11¾, while
Ethan Crouch (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was sixth at 48-10¾.
Ethan Ptacek (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg) finished in sixth in the 400-meters in 55.21 seconds along with
Jorge Cantu (Cypress, TX/Bridgeland) in the 800-meters in 2:05.50.
Xander Hall (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) placed seventh in the pole vault as he cleared 13-9¼, with
Isaac Pollard (Lindale, TX/Lindale) finishing immediately behind him at the same height but having two more misses in the competition.
Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) also finished eighth in the shot put with his throw of 47-6¼ and in the weight throw at 50-11½, one spot ahead of
Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) who had a ninth place mark of 49-2¼.
The Miners had additional eighth place finishes in the 400-meters from
Justin Grellner (Cedar Hill, MO/Northwest) with a time of 55.63 seconds and 800-meters from
Mason Ivy (Centerton, AR/Bentonville West) with his time of 2:08.03. Grellner later finished ninth in the 200-meters in 24.49 seconds.
Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) was ninth in the high jump at 5-10 as was
Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the mile in 4:40.45, with Levi Frisbee finishing 10
th in 4:40.66.
Andrew Pommer (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had a time of 56.58 seconds to finish 10
th in the 400-meters.
Missouri S&T will compete next weekend at the Principia Multis in Elsah, Ill., which will be a two-day meet beginning on Friday.
