COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's cross country captured its second team and individual titles in as many meets to open the 2022 season Friday, winning the Larry Young Invitational and getting a title effort again from
Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) in the process.
S&T's women's team also competed in Friday's meet and garnered a fourth place showing among the 13 teams that took part.
Pateidl, who won the Southwest Baptist Invitational to open the season two weeks ago, navigated the eight kilometer course in 25:07 to finish five seconds in front of Logan Horning from Friends University. The Miners also had two additional top-10 finishers in the competition as
Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) finished in third place in 25:34 and
Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) placed 10
th in 26:27.
S&T's top five scoring spots were rounded out by
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) in 16
th place in a time of 26:53 and
Joshua Nunn (Independence, MO/Truman), who was 19
th in 26:57.
Evan Stephens (Jackson, MO/Jackson) finished in 20
th place in 27 minutes and
Spencer Teske (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) was S&T's seventh finisher in 24
th place in the 155-runner race in 27:16.
The Miners finished with 49 points to finish 19 points in front of Benedictine and well ahead of third place Truman State to earn their second straight win at the Larry Young Invitational.
S&T's women were led by
Victoria Regitz (Rockville, MD/Rockville) in 12
th place in the five-kilometer race as she posted a time of 19:37.
Grace Giesler (Owasso, OK/Owasso) finished 16
th overall in 19:44 and
Clare Holmes (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) was one spot behind with a finish of 19:48.
Aubrie Caldwell (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs), who was 22
nd in 19:59 and
Emma Mueller (St. Louis, MO/Oakville), who took 27
th in 20:10, rounded out the top five for S&T.
The next two finishers and scorers were
Emily Griesenauer (Wentzville, MO/Holt) in 28
th place in 20:11 and
Megan Cook (Okawville, IL/Okawville), who ended up 53
rd in 21:16. A total of 125 runners took part in the women's race.
Truman State won the team competition by five points over Benedictine, while William Woods ended up 10 points better than S&T's total of 91 points for third place.
Missouri S&T's next competition is slated for Sept. 30 at the Chile Pepper Festival that is hosted by the University of Arkansas.
