Nine firsts equals two teams titles for track teams at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Missouri S&T's track & field team accumulated the most points on both sides of the ledger Saturday as they recorded a total of nine first place finishes and two new NCAA Division II provisional qualifying performances at the Dick Cochran Classic at Lindenwood University.

The men's team recorded six of the winning efforts, one of which came from Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault with a career-high clearance of 16-7½ that also made an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) had a pair of firsts, winning the 1,500-meters in 4:05.15 and later taking the 5,000-meters in 15:45.48. Other firsts came from Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) in the shot put with a mark of 54-11½, Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:01 flat and Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.87 seconds.

Second place performances were posted by Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) in the pole vault at 16-4¾, Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) in the triple jump at 45-10½, Swadley in the discus throw at 158-9 and hammer throw at 184-3 and Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the javelin with a throw of 143-0.  Matthew Hoffman (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) placed third in the discus at 150-0 as did Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) in the hammer at 182-10, Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) in the shot at 49-1 and Allen was third in the long jump at 23-3½; Anderson had a fourth place showing in that event at 22-1½. 

Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) also took fourth in the hammer with a mark of 153-5 as did Luebbert in the shot at 47-7¾, Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds and Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 5,000 in 16:51.94.  Fifth place finishes came from Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the high jump as he cleared 5-10¾, Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the long jump at 22-1, Luebbert in the discus throw with a mark of 134-8, Hoffman in the shot put at 42-8¾, Spencer Teske (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) in the steeplechase in 11:00.65, Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.44 seconds and Samuel Schmidt in the 200-meters in 21.92 seconds.

Janke was sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-10¾, as was Marchert in the discus at 134-2, Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 10,000-meters in 35:53.75 and Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 5,000-meters in 16:56.28.

Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) posted a seventh place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 42-6, as did Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) in the javelin with a throw of 114-5, Schmidt in the 100-meters in a season-best 10.78 seconds and Nathan Gillespie (Enterprise, AL/Enterprise) in the 10,000-meters in a time of 37:24.91.  Evan Stephens (Jackson, MO/Jackson) finished in eighth in the 1,500-meters in 4:22.85.

On the women's side, S&T got winning performances from Maya Washington (St. Louis, MO/Homeschooled) in the 100-meters in 11.79 seconds -- a time that set a new school record and met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard -- Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) in the high jump as she cleared 5-5 and Sydney Stephens (Plattsburg, MO/Plattsburg) in the discus with a throw of 132-4.  S&T had the top three finishers in the discus as Jessica Rhoads (Holts Summit, MO/Jefferson City) was second with a throw of 130-4 and Paige Lambright (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) took third at 124-feet.

S&T also got a second place finish from Isabelle McGuire (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx Hall) in the 10,000-meters with a time of 47:41.78, while Olivia Henkel (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) took third in the high jump at 4-11 along with Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) in the pole vault at 10-6, Stephens in the shot put at 38-2¼ and Emily Griesenauer (Wentzville, MO/Holt) in the 1,500-meters in 5:16.16.

Rhoads finished fourth in the hammer throw at 153-11, one place ahead of Stephens' mark of 146-10, while S&T also got a fourth from Lambright in the shot put at 37-3¾ and fifths from Kassandra Hayes (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the high jump at 4-9 and the long jump with a mark of 33-10¾ and Rhoads in the shot at 36-3.

Sixth place efforts came from Delaney Guy (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard North) in the long jump at 32-11¼, Hope Strausbaugh (Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 14:26.63, Washington in the 200-meters in 26.18 seconds and Aubrie Caldwell (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) in the 5,000-meters in 22:05.03, while Guy was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 16-9¼ along with Allison Rush (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) in the 1,500-meters in 5:36.79.

S&T's men's team recorded 214 points to easily outdistance Lindenwood in the team standings, while the women's squad posted 130 points to edge Northwest Missouri State for the women's title; Northwest finished with 126.

A select group of Miners will take part in the Drake Relays next week in Des Moines, Iowa, while the balance of the team will idle from meet competition until the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships that will get underway on May 5 in Bolivar, Mo.
