ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's track & field team set three new meet records and had 14 winning performances Saturday as it competed at the Dewey Allgood Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City) opened the day by setting a new meet record in the javelin throw with a mark of 209-11, which was also the second-best throw in school history in the javelin. Johnson had three throws of better than 200-feet in the competition, all of which came in his final three attempts.
The other meet records were posted by Hayes Patiedl in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he recorded a winning time of 9:21.67 and by
Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) in the high jump, where he cleared 6-11 in his winning performance that also improved his NCAA Division II provisional mark in that event.
S&T also got two winning efforts Saturday from
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) in the shot put with a throw of 57-7 and in the discus with his mark of 149-8. Swadley also took second behind teammate
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) in the hammer throw, as Luebbert had a season-best mark of 190-3 to improve on his NCAA provisional mark to beat Swadley's best throw of 177-4.
Freshman Samuel Schmidt also captured two events Saturday by winning the 100-meter dash in 11.02 seconds and later winning the 200-meters in 22.11 seconds. S&T's other individual event wins came from
Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the long jump with a leap of 22-1¾,
Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) in the triple jump with a mark of 43-7¼,
Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-11,
Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.76 seconds and
Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.86 seconds.
The Miners' 4x100-meter relay team of Schmidt, Allen,
Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) and Toben was also victorious with a time of 43.70 seconds to edge Maryville's team by 0.25 seconds.
S&T also had 12 second place efforts in the meet, getting them on the track from
Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) in the steeplechase at 9:52 flat,
Evan Stephens (Jackson, MO/Jackson) in the 1,500-meters in 4:17.68,
Zack Southard (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) in the 800-meters with a time of 2:07.85,
Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.19 seconds and its top team in the 4x400-meter relay of Pateidl,
Jonah Yates (Ballwin, MO/Parkway West),
Lucas Stratos (St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) and
Jorge Cantu (Cypress, TX/Bridgeland) as it recorded a time of 3:48.30.
In the field events, Knittel took second in the javelin at 158-10, as did Allen in the long jump at 22-0¼,
Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) in the triple jump at 43-2¼, Luebbert in the shot at 47-3¼,
Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault at 14-9, Janke in the high jump at 6-4¾ and
Matthew Hoffman (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) in the discus at 138-7.
Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) had two third place finishes Saturday, doing so in the 1,500-meters in 4:22.31 and 5,000-meters in 16:34.22. In addition, Janke finished third in the javelin with a mark of 152-10, along with Anderson in the long jump at 21-9,
Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the triple jump at 42-6¾, Hoffman in the shot put at 41-11¼,
Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the high jump as he cleared 5-8¾,
Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.85 seconds, Stephens in the 800-meters in 2:10.12 and Luebbert in the hammer at 132-5.
Fourth place finishes were recorded by Richardson in the long jump at 21-0¾,
Andrew Pommer (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) in the 400-meters in 53.60 seconds,
Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 5,000-meters in 16:37.64, Knittel in the high jump at 5-7, Fritz in the 800-meters in a time of 2:10.92 and
Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) in the hammer throw at 147-2 and discus at 111-4.
Missouri S&T will take part in the Dick Creer Invitational at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., next Saturday.
