ELSAH, Ill. – Missouri S&T's women's cross country team came away with a meet victory for the second week in succession Friday evening as it captured the TRXC Border War Invitational at Principia College, while the men's team took second place in that race.
The Miners' top five finishers all ended up among the top eight overall in the five-kilometer race, led by
Victoria Regitz's (Rockville, MD/Rockville) third place finish in a time of 19:53.
Emily Griesenauer (Wentzville, MO/Holt) finished fourth in 19:54.8 and
Aubrie Caldwell (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) came in fifth in a time of 19:54.9.
After Central Missouri's Katie Bean crossed the finish line in sixth place,
Grace Giesler (Owasso, OK/Owasso) came in seventh in 20:02 and
Clare Holmes (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) crossed the line next in eighth in 20:04 to allow the Miners to edge UCM by one point in the team standings and capture back-to-back races for the first time in program history.
Central Missouri had the top two finishers – including race winner Risper Mengich in 19:42 – but S&T had five of the next six to finish with 27 points to the Jennies' 28.
Emma Mueller (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) finished in 12
th place in 20:40 and
Megan Cook (Okawville, IL/Okawville) was the final Miner scorer in 20
th place in the 58-runner race with a time of 21:40.
The men's eight-kilometer race saw the Miners take six of the top 15 spots, but it wasn't enough to overcome Central Missouri's showing as the Mules' top five runners all finished among the top eight in the standings.
Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) led the way for S&T as he finished third in 25:04, while the Miners had two others in the top 10 in
Daniel Garrison (Liberty, MO/Liberty), who was eighth in 26:27 and
Joshua Nunn (Independence, MO/Truman), who finished 10
th in a time of 26:34.
Spencer Teske (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) crossed the line immediately after Nunn in 26:51, while
Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) was the fifth S&T runner to finish as he was in 14
th in 27:14; his brother,
Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines), was 15
th in 27:23 and Aaron Yocum was the Miners' seventh scorer in 19
th place in 27:45.
Connar Southard, running unattached, won the race in a time of 24:52.
S&T finished with 41 points to UCM's 22, but did end up well ahead of third place finisher Mineral Area as there was a 36-point gap between second and third place.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place on Oct. 21 at the Southwest Baptist Open in Bolivar, Mo.
