ROLLA, Mo. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America has named six members of Missouri S&T's swimming team as recipients of Scholar All-America honors for the 2018-19 season.

Individuals who made the team did so on the basis of a grade point average of 3.5 or better and competing at the NCAA Division II Championships.  Four of the six selections – Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan), Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston), Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) and Josh Umrysh – have earned spots on the Scholar All-America list in previous seasons.

The other two, Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) and Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), are on the CSCAA's academic list for the first time in their career.

Four of the selections won Great Lakes Valley Conference championships during the 2019 conference meet, led by Huffman's three GLVC titles that earned him the league's "Freshman of the Year" award.  Samuelsen was a repeat conference champion in the 1,650-freestyle and later finished second at the NCAA Championships in that event, while Meyer and Umrysh won GLVC titles as part of relay teams.

Meyer, who had seven top-five finishes at the GLVC Championships and added seven All-America performances a month later, was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team along with Umrysh.

McPherson – the only individual among the six honorees to win the Scholar All-America award for the fourth time --  competed in three events at the national meet, highlighted by a fifth place finish as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team and Becker was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team in Indianapolis that placed eighth.

Samuelsen was named to the Scholar All-America squad for the third time this season, while Meyer and Umrysh are on the team for the second time.  Missouri S&T has had 52 individual selections to the Scholar All-America team over the past 10 seasons.

Last week, the Miners were named as a recipient of the CSCAA's team Scholar All-America award.
