ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) became the third Miner thrower to reach an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Friday as he won the hammer throw on day one of the Dewey Allgood Invitational.

Miller won the event with a throw of 191-3 to join Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) and Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City) as S&T's provisional qualifiers to date.  He also led a one-two finish by S&T in the event, as Swadley took the second spot in the final standings with a toss of 172-2.

S&T had four of the top eight finishers in the hammer – the only event outside of the multi-events that was contested Friday – as Daniel Miller (Jefferson City, MO/Jefferson City) came in fourth with a mark of 153-9 and Justin Murdock (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) was eighth at 139-9.

In the first day of the decathlon, Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) finds himself in second place with a total of 3,259 points and Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) is in fourth with 2,933 points.  Janke had the best performances of the day in the long jump with a leap of 21-2½ and the shot put, where he had a throw of 40-2, while matching current decathlon leader David Martin of Greenville with a clearance of 5-11½ in the high jump.

Anderson had the second-best marks of the day among the competitors in the 100-meter dash and long jump.

The balance of the meet will take place on Saturday, beginning with the sixth event of the decathlon – the 110-meter hurdles – at 9 a.m.  The field events will get underway at 11 a.m. and the track events start at 1 p.m.
