ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will wrap up its 2018 campaign Wednesday afternoon when it heads to St. Louis to take on Maryville University in a noon contest.
The Miners, 3-12 overall and 3-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will look to end the season on a winning note against a Saint team that is trying to secure a home game in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament. Maryville is currently fifth in the GLVC standings at 7-3-2, but is one-half game in back of Bellarmine and Indianapolis heading into the final day of the season. The top four teams will host a first round game on Sunday.
S&T will also be seeking to end a four-game losing streak in the finale, which was extended with weekend setbacks at Lewis and Indianapolis.
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik) had a hand in both goals in the 4-2 loss at Lewis, scoring the first and then assisting on the second goal to tie the S&T career record with his 21
st assist.
Ulfarsson leads the Miners in scoring with 16 points on five goals and six assists, while
Austin Parks (Rolla, MO/Rolla) is tied for the team lead with five goals.
Hunter Short (Rolla, MO/Rolla) has also scored three times for the Miners.
Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) has recorded 63 saves in goals for S&T.
Maryville broke a three-game winless streak with a 2-0 win Sunday at Lewis, getting goals from Helmut Florencia and Mirza Hasecic to back a shutout performance in goal from Christian Kjaersgaard, who has a 1.08 goals against average and 35 saves in goal.
Florencia leads the Saints (8-4-3 overall) with seven goals and 15 points, while JD Sohn has two goals and five assists.
