BOLIVAR, Mo. — Missouri S&T men's soccer continued its strong stretch of play Wednesday, posting a 3-0 shutout victory over Southwest Baptist at SBU Soccer Field.
The Miners improved to 6-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play with their fourth shutout of the season.
Missouri S&T struck first in the 22nd minute when
Kellen Douglas (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) found the back of the net off an assist from
Zyon Makoul (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago/Bishop). The Miners continued to pressure the Bearcats throughout the opening half, earning five corner kicks and putting seven shots toward the goal.
Mike Banasik (Hjoerring, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) doubled the lead in the 35th minute, converting a penalty kick to give Missouri S&T a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Miners continued to control the match in the second half, holding Southwest Baptist without a goal while creating several more scoring opportunities. Missouri S&T finished with 15 shots and 10 corner kicks in the contest.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) capped the scoring in the 87th minute, finding the net to give the Miners a three-goal cushion.
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made one save to record the shutout in goal for Missouri S&T, while the Miners' defense limited Southwest Baptist to one shot on goal.
Douglas, Banasik and Giesing each scored once for the Miners, while Makoul recorded an assist. Banasik also finished with three shots, while Douglas added three shots and Giesing recorded two.

The Miners will return to action in St. Louis to take on Maryville University.
