SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team had its last competition prior to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Saturday as it faced Missouri State and Lindenwood in a double dual meet.
Freshman
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) recorded the Miners' lone winning performance Saturday as he won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:05.28. S&T also got a second place showing from
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad) in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.24 seconds, while
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) was third in the 200-breaststroke in 2:07.66.
S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of
Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands),
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East), Kerc and
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) also placed third in that event with a time of 3:10.76.
Sponsler finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.56 seconds and fourth in the 50-freestyle in 21.39 seconds. S&T also got a fourth place finish from
Nate Kamrath (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) in the 200-yard backstroke as he recorded a time of 1:59.48
S&T's 400-yard medley relay team of Kamrath, Chavez,
Chase Davis (Tulsa, Okla./Union) and
Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) finished fourth in 3:34.44.
Glaser took fifth in the 200-freestyle in 1:45.30 and 500-freestyle in 4:48 flat, as did
Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador) in the 50-freestyle in 21.63 seconds, Goldfarb in the 200-individual medley in 2:00.47, Norris in the 100-free in 49.11 seconds.
The Miners will open competition at the inaugural GLVC Swimming Championships Feb. 12 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
