Goldfarb makes NCAA provisional qualifying time in 400-IM

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) became the first Miner swimmer to make an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Saturday, doing so in the 400-yard individual medley as the team completed its competition at the Drury Invitational.

Goldfarb finished third in the 400-IM with his provisional qualifying time of 4:03.92 and would add another third place showing later in the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:04.54.

Colton Krause (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville) also had a third place effort Saturday in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.61 and also ended up in fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 51l.83 seconds.

The Miners also got a pair of fourth place showing from its relay teams, as the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette), Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad), Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) and Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) finished in 6:58.86 and the 400-free relay quartet of Sponsler, Kerc, Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) and Glaser posted a time of 3:09.64.

Layne took fifth in the 400-IM in 4:09.86 and the 200-backstroke in 1:57.98, as did Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) in the 100-yard breaststroke with his performance of 1:01.49, Glaser in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:51.14 and Kerc in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.39 seconds.

S&T started its competition Saturday with a sixth place showing in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador), Goldfarb, Colton Krause (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville) and Kerc recorded a time of 1:36.03.

The Miners' next competition will take place after the university's final examinations are completed, as they will take part in the Delta State Invitational beginning Dec. 14 in Cleveland, Miss.
