Lady Miners' Clement claims pole vault title as team finishes fourth

KENOSHA, Wis. – Missouri S&T's women's track & field team moved up in the standings to fourth place and gained an individual conference championship in the process Saturday to wrap up their performances at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Lady Miners had three of the top eight finishers in the pole vault Saturday, led by Clement, who cleared 11-4 ¼ and missed fewer attempts in the competition than two others that also cleared that height to take the title.  Rachel Ederle (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) finished fourth with a clearance of 11-0 ¼, while Sydnee Schram (Kansas City, Mo./Winnetonka) tied for eighth at 10-0 ½.

S&T also got a second place finish from Mary Ann Bradshaw (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) in the triple jump with a mark of 36-10 ¼, while Samantha Wermager (Hokah, Minn./Caledonia) finished fourth at 35-10 ½.

The Lady Miners had three of the top seven finishers as well in the 800-meters, led by Natalie Updyke (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville)'s fourth place finish in a time of 2:19.52.  Paige Kruse (Cuba, Mo./Cuba) came in fifth in 2:19.61 and Kassie Osborne (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) was seventh in 2:21.44.

S&T finished up its day with a third place showing in the 4x400-meter relay, as the team of Updyke, Kruse, Osborne and Bradshaw recorded a time of 4:02.55.

The Lady Miners moved up two spots in the standings as the result of their performance on Saturday, finishing with 60.5 points.  Bellarmine took the team title by nine points over Lewis, while Indianapolis placed third.  S&T was six and one-half points ahead of William Jewell for fourth place.
