BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –
Taylor Cipicchio (Highland, Ill./Highland) set a school record and reached an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the process Saturday in the pole vault as the Missouri S&T women's track & field team opened its 2013-14 indoor season in a meet at Illinois Wesleyan.
Cipicchio cleared 12-5½ and won the event based on fewer misses over Washington University's Anna Etherington, while breaking the previous record by nearly eight inches. She was one of five S&T competitors to finish among the top 11 in the pole vault, as
Rachel Ederle (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) was third at 11-11¾ -- also good for a provisional mark with a clearance that also broke her previous best indoors --
Sydnee Schram (Kansas City, Mo./Winnetonka) was sixth with a clearance of 10 feet as was
Natalie Mitchell (Gardner, Kan./Gardner-Edgerton) in eighth place and
Kelly McGuire (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) was the fifth among the top 11.
Bradshaw won the 200-meters in a time of 26.73 seconds, edging Washington University's Katie Sandson by 0.05 seconds to win it and anchored the Lady Miners' 4x400-meter relay team that just beat out Truman State's team in a time of 4:05.58. She was joined on the relay by
Katlyn Meier (Vienna, Mo./Maries R-1), Rachel Lawal and
Erika Simple (Bloomington, Ill./Normal University).
Also over the course of the day, Bradshaw would finish second in the long jump with a mark of 17-2¼ and placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.92 seconds.
Lawal came in second in the 300-meters as she finished in 42.90 seconds, while Meier placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with her school record time of 9.37 seconds and also took fourth in the 60-yard dash with a time of 8.10 seconds after recording an 8.04 in the preliminaries.
Christine Schmid finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 41-10 and
Alexis Lee (West Plains, Mo./West Plains) also had a fourth place showing in the 300-meters with a time of 43.56 seconds, while also recrording a fifth-place finish in the 200-meters in 27.66 seconds. Simple was sixth in the 200-meters in 27.68 seconds.
The Lady Miners' next competition will take place Jan. 17 at Central Missouri.
