Women’s Basketball Pushes Upper Iowa to Overtime in Narrow Loss

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's basketball battled through four quarters and overtime on Wednesday night but came up just short in a 77–73 setback to Upper Iowa University in a hard-fought Great Lakes Valley Conference contest inside Gibson Arena. The Miners moved to 8–10 overall and 4–8 in GLVC play following the contest.

The game was back-and-forth from the opening tip, featuring 12 ties and 14 lead changes, as neither team was able to build a significant advantage. Missouri S&T held a narrow 17–16 edge after the first quarter, and the two teams remained deadlocked through the second period, heading into halftime tied at 30–30. Upper Iowa gained momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Miners 22–15 to take a seven-point lead entering the final frame.

Missouri S&T responded with its strongest stretch of the night in the fourth quarter, opening the period on a 17–7 run to erase the deficit and swing momentum back in its favor. The Miners attacked the paint and capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting a perfect 7-for-7 in the fourth quarter. With 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 66–66 and force overtime.

In the extra period, Upper Iowa capitalized at the free-throw line, while Missouri S&T continued to battle but was unable to convert key possessions down the stretch. Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) paced the Miners with 17 points, while Kiarra Kilgore (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg) added 12 points on efficient shooting. McCulla turned in a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, anchoring the Miners in the post. Missouri S&T dominated the paint, holding a 56–26 advantage in points inside, and outrebounded Upper Iowa 47–40, but the Peacocks' 15-of-17 performance from the free-throw line ultimately proved to be the difference.
