Women's Basketball Fights to Final Minutes in Loss to Quincy

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's basketball battled down to the final minutes but came up short Saturday afternoon, falling 61–56 to Quincy University in a tightly contested Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup inside Gibson Arena. With the result, the Miners move to 8–11 overall and 4–9 in GLVC play.

The game was tightly played from the opening tip, as the two teams were tied at 12–12 after the first quarter. Quincy used a strong second quarter at the free-throw line to take a 29–23 lead into halftime, but Missouri S&T responded coming out of the break. The Miners turned in their best offensive stretch in the third quarter, shooting 57.1 percent from the field and outscoring the Hawks 22–17 to cut the deficit to just one heading into the final period.

Missouri S&T continued to battle in the fourth quarter and pulled even at 46–46 with 8:20 remaining after a free throw from Kiarra Kilgore (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg). The game remained within one possession for much of the final frame, with the Miners answering multiple Quincy baskets down the stretch, but the Hawks were able to convert key free throws late to seal the win.

Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led Missouri S&T with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, recording a double-double, while Macy Marraccini (Broken Arrow, OK/Broken Arrow) added 11 points and nine rebounds. Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) chipped in nine points, and Megan Aulbert (Lake St. Louis, MO/Lutheran) provided a spark off the bench with seven points and five rebounds. Missouri S&T held a 49–28 advantage on the glass and scored 28 points in the paint.
