Swim Places 4th at GLVC; Bichsel and Christensen Earn All-GLVC

EVANSVILLE, IN  --  Missouri S&T Swimming ended their five-day stretch at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) championships on a high note, earning three runner-up finishes on the final two days of competition. Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) broke his own school record in the 200 Fly on Friday, touching the wall at 1:45.49.
 
Colin Shaffer (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) kicked off Thursday's competition for S&T, finishing 23rd in the 500 Free Prelim. Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium) followed that up with a 13th-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 49.82. Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West) and Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) both advanced to finals in the next two events, with Christensen taking second in the 100 Breast and Bichsel placing third in the 200 Fly.
 
In the Thursday evening session, Shaffer finished 23rd again in the 500 Free, improving on his time by over a second for a career-best 4:38.00. Fridsell improved on his position in the 100 Back during the consolation final, taking 12th overall.
 
Christensen earned the first All-GLVC finish of the championships, taking second in the 100 Breast with a time of 53.08 that was almost a full second better than his previous best. Bichsel was runner-up in the 200 Fly next, setting a new S&T record. The Miners ended the day with the 200 Free Relay, ending 5th with a time of 1:21.02.
 
Shaffer led off the final day of the meet, placing 16th in the 1650 Free with another personal-best. Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) finished third in the consolation final next, touching the wall at 44.92. The 200 back came next, with Fridsell finishing 8th in the consolation final.
 
Bichsel and Christensen finished second and third in the 200 Breast final, with Bichsel earning his second All-GLVC honor of the championships. Peragallo, Iden, Fridsell, and Wiedemeier wrapped up S&T's time at the championships, taking 5th in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:00.11.
 
The Miners finished fourth overall at the championships, earning 801 total points.
 
What's Next
The NCAA Division II Championships is S&T's next event, scheduled for March 10th through 14th in Evansville, Indiana.
