Track & Field Splits Squad Between Pittsburg State Invitational and Principia Relays

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's and women's track and field teams split up this weekend as the indoor season continues, with the Miners competing at two meets across the Midwest. The distance crew will travel to Pittsburg, Kansas, to compete in the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31, hosted at the Robert W. Plaster Center, while the remainder of the squad heads to Elsah, Illinois, for the Principia Relays, held Friday, Jan. 30 through Saturday, Jan. 31, inside the Crafton Athletic Center.

Last Time Out – Don Denoon Classic
Missouri S&T sent a focused group of throwers and multi-event athletes to Southern Illinois for the Don Denoon Classic, where the Miners delivered an impressive showing highlighted by event wins, multiple podium finishes, and a school record. Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) led the women's throws with a first-place finish in the shot put (14.19 meters) and a third-place result in the weight throw (15.34), while Madelaine Fischer (Anamosa, IA/Anamosa) added fourth in the weight throw (14.76) and sixth in the shot put (11.36). Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) finished second in the pentathlon with 3,416 points. On the men's side, Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) captured first in the shot put (17.69) and placed second in the weight throw (18.96), Aiden McDaniel (Ashland, MO/Southern Boone) took third in the shot put (14.98), and Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) delivered a historic performance by winning the heptathlon with 5,112 points to break the Missouri S&T school record.

Meet Schedule
At the Pittsburg State Invitational, competition will take place Saturday at the Robert W. Plaster Center, with field events beginning in the morning and a full slate of distance and track events running throughout the day, highlighted by the 5,000 meters, mile, 3,000 meters, and distance medley relay.

At the Principia Relays, action spans Friday and Saturday on a 200-meter indoor track. Friday features field events, sprint prelims, the distance medley relay, and the 5,000-meter run, while Saturday concludes the meet with running finals, relays, and the 3,000 meters.
