Women’s Basketball Battles but Falls at Maryville

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's basketball competed stride for stride Saturday afternoon but came up short in an 81-66 setback to Maryville at Moloney Arena in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.

The Miners stayed within striking distance throughout the contest, trading leads multiple times and keeping the game tight into the second half. Missouri S&T led after the first quarter and continued to pressure Maryville with strong interior play and consistent defensive energy.

Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) paced the Miners with a team-high 19 points, knocking down three three-pointers and adding two rebounds. Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) followed with 13 points and five rebounds, while Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) contributed nine points, a team-high six rebounds, and two blocks in the paint. Macy Marraccini (Broken Arrow, OK/Broken Arrow) added nine points off the bench, providing a spark on both ends of the floor.

Missouri S&T found success attacking the lane, finishing with 32 points in the paint and forcing 14 turnovers that turned into transition opportunities. The Miners also recorded 12 second-chance points behind active offensive rebounding and matched Maryville's physicality on the glass for much of the afternoon.

The game remained tight entering the fourth quarter, but Maryville capitalized in the end to pull away. Despite the final score, Missouri S&T showed composure and competitiveness against one of the league's top teams.
