Women's Basketball Pushes Late, Falls to McKendree

ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's basketball put together a strong response after an early deficit but ultimately fell 69–63 to McKendree on Thursday evening at Bullman Multi-Purpose Center.

The Miners were held to 10 points in the opening quarter before settling in offensively, trimming a 21-point gap down to single digits by halftime behind a 26-point second quarter. S&T continued to battle throughout the second half, cutting the deficit to four late in the fourth quarter, but McKendree held on down the stretch.

Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led the Miners with 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, recording a double-double to pace S&T inside. Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) added 10 points and six rebounds, while Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) and Macy Marraccini (Broken Arrow, OK/Broken Arrow) each chipped in with nine points. Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) contributed seven points off the bench, and Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Missouri S&T showed balance offensively, scoring 28 points in the paint and 18 bench points, while also forcing 15 turnovers that turned into transition opportunities. The Miners also won the rebounding battle on the offensive glass, grabbing 14 second-chance boards to keep possessions alive.

Missouri S&T returns to Gibson Arena on Saturday, January 24, to take on Illinois Springfield, with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
